GAT Girl’s Fringe Guide

There’s nothing more exciting than when Adelaide city blossoms with life during Fringe season! With so much to do and see, we've laid out the key must-see events and shows we are looking forward to this season!

Fool’s Paradise @ Tarntanyangga (Victoria Square)

Adelaide's newest Fringe Precinct, Fools Paradise will be one of the epicentres of activity at the Fringe. With food, drink, roaming entertainment and two unique venues.

Enjoy yummy bites from Bao Bao (by the Filipino Project), Pizza Reggina and more! Sip on bevvies from bespoke bars while after you experience the mesmerising shows Fool’s Paradise has on offer, including Barbaroi in The Vault. ‘Barbaroi’ is the Greek word for barbarian or outsider, which is fitting for this experience that explores a dystopian world overrun by gangs and meta-humans.

Its cyberpunk aesthetic is one of the things that makes Barbaroi stand out from your regular circus performance. Taking home the best circus award at the 2021 Fringe, we are prepared to be amazed once more in 2023!

SILENCE ! @ Elder Park

Set to be the spectacle of this year's Adelaide Fringe. SILENCE ! Festival will transform Elder Park showcasing a solid Australian music lineup, and headline performance like nothing seen before in Australia.

Brought to you by the team behind RCC and The Garden Of Unearthly Delights, SILENCE ! is a festival in itself, spanning over three, noise-filled nights.

Co-founder Michelle Buxton explains, “We want spectators to feel like they’ve entered into a new world when they step inside SILENCE !.” Let’s just say this won’t be your average music festival, complete with percussion and pyrotechnics!

Break the silence and grab your tickets.

Crème de la crème @ The Vault, Fool’s Paradise

What’s not to love about a variety night where you get to experience an array of wonders? Crème de la crème showcases world-class acrobatics, skits, and physical comedy. According to the team, we should expect “equal parts grit and sweat as glitz and glam.” It sure sounds like Crème de la crème is a diverse journey full of surprises - and we can’t wait!

Say yes to a new experience and get your hands on a ticket!

Korean Season @ Arts Theatre

This Fringe, Korean Season is presenting a plethora of four shows, and with the evergrowing rise of K-pop in Australia, we just know that this selection of shows, inspired by the genre, will be very popular this Fringe. Hello, the Hell: Othello even stars a yet-to-be-announced K-pop idol! And, according to their media release, “A never ending nightmare that must be escaped”.

For the film buffs out there, Parasite director, Bong Joon-ho had many good things to say about one of the shows, Black and White Tearoom.

See it for yourself and grab your tickets here.

Catch these two performances and more this Korean Season!

Rio 40° @ Nexus Arts / The Lab

This immersive dance performance attempts to transport audiences to the world-famous city, Rio De Janeiro! So, if like us, you were also mesmerised by the kid’s movie about a talking bird titled ‘Rio,’ then maybe Rio 40° will scratch your itch for Brazilian culture (in a far more socially acceptable and culturally accurate manner).

Get your tickets and prepare to teleport across the world!

CAKE @ The Vault, Fool’s Paradise

Cake is a burlesque and circus performance that claims to be the “messiest party since the revolution.” In a bout of colourful chaos, Cake imagines a world where the ruling class is made up of clowns! We are especially excited about the possibility of interacting with the performers at this show, and perhaps playing more of a role than an average audience member.

Get your ticket and join the revolt!

Anecdotal Evidence @ The Warehouse Theatre

Marelynn is an Australian comedian and fitness instructor who promises to weave stories and anecdotes together, making us laugh and taking us on a journey. She promises to cover the topics of queerness, narcolepsy and wanting your life to mean something. We are incredibly excited to see how Marelynn explores some quite serious topics while creating levity, humour and relatability around them.

Tell your friends and get your tickets.

Are you a bit of a nerd for Greek mythology? Do you like to laugh? Well this comedy circus act might just be the show for you! Mixing circus and storytelling, Godz will transport you to ancient Greece with some unexpected twists. This show is - apparently - not short of gravity-defying stunts!

Don’t miss out and get your tickets now!

Well GAT girls, guys and goers, that completes our 2023 Fringe Guide. We hope you make the most of the season, and we’ll see you about town!
